CafĂ©Mom introduces the YouTube series Our Special Lives. Each episode features a different family with a special needs child and we’re able to take a look into their lives, their challenges and their joys.
Meet Jamie, Scott and their two-year old daughter Maddox and new baby MacGregor. Maddox has Robertsonian Translocation Down Syndrome, which means two of her chromosomes fused together.
Jamie describes Maddox as “very cheerful, happy, witty. She’s two, so she’s also terrible at times.”
“When Maddox came out they put her in my belly and I knew instantly,” says Jamie. “She didn’t look like the little girl I had envisioned.”
Maddox has a speech therapist and a physical therapist that are helping her learn important skills. “There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t hope that Maddox graduates from college and gets a job. I want her to live in a house. I want her to have a roommate. I want her to drive,” Jamie tells us. “I think that all of those hopes are realistic. She will only go as far as you and I push her.”
