Living Innovations pioneers a new residential model: Shared Living
For most of us, growing up means leaving the family home and living on our own, getting a job, making new friends and finding our place in the world. For people with developmental and physical disabilities — and their families — those aspirations can be especially challenging to fulfill. Until recently, group homes offered one of the few residential alternatives for people who need ongoing support.
Living Innovations has been a pioneer in offering a new residential option – Shared Living – in which an individual lives with a carefully selected and trained host family. Over the years, we’ve discovered that Shared Living is a “win-win” situation for all involved. The person receiving support often becomes a member of the home provider’s extended family, and gets involved in the community in ways that may not be possible in a traditional group home. Our shared homes are consistently the highest rated of all the services we provide.
Living Innovations supports hundreds of children and adults with disabilities and their families throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. In addition to recruiting and managing dozens of shared living situations, our services include: in-home support, community programs, transition support from school to adulthood, career skills development and respite support.
Living Innovations was founded over 15 years ago with the philosophy that all people deserve the opportunity to lead happy, fulfilling lives as valued members of a larger community. We are passionate about our work — and the families we serve. We invite you to learn more at www.livinginnovations.com.
